One of the many great ladies I’ve gotten to know over the past few years is Katy – and who will hopefully be joining the other portraits on here soon.
Like myself, this process has made her develop a thick skin and a pretty dark sense of humour. That, combined with her passion for raising awareness about this subject and her eloquence, has led her to start writing a book on the subject. Over the past year, the importance of her voice has been recognised and she has been asked to write several articles for The Guardian and others. She is doing amazing work and I can’t wait to see what she does next!
In one article, she discusses the tyranny of positive thinking and how unhelpful being simply encouraged to think positively can be, without doing anything constructive, that is. In another, she talks about the overwhelming feelings of failure that women can feel when their body isn’t capable of doing what is expected of it and how this conflicts with being a Feminist. I talked about this earlier in my blog too briefly, but not nearly as succintly!
